Let It Ride

I am getting back into the swing of things here at Uni. I can't forget to take time out to carve up the slopes though. I have upped my snowboarding quota to once a week. I am still getting the carving thing down so I don't mind being seen on the slopes of Ontario's smallest ski hills. It works for me though ( close and cheap usually do). On my third time boarding I got in the groove. You know that place where everything just clicks and you don't have to think about what you're doing, it just comes. It's a great feeling and it stuck with me for days. I didn't have to think about bending my knees at the entrance to the turn or keeping my hands up. Everything just fell into place. I am certainly not claiming that I am a snowboarding master, but I am a far sight better than I was a month ago. I might start giving the half pipe a try. Practice Makes Perfect.(Feb 99)

Well I am almost finished my stint here in Germany. It is almost snowboarding season you know. My dream, when coming to Europe, was to board the slopes of Chamonix. Unfortunately, due to time and financial constraints, I must forego this ecstasy. I will be back on Canadian soil in no time though. I plan to join UW´s illustrious ski club or more correctly, board club. The board club frequents the slopes of the world famous Chicopee ski resort ( don´t laugh, it´s not funny! ). I do have problems calling Chicopee a resort. It is more a shack at the bottom of a hill. Yet, I cannot complain since I have the money nor the time to do much snowboarding anywhere else. So I I am thankful for what I have.(Nov 98)

I tried snowboarding for the first time this winter. What a ride! I did end up paying the price for it though. On my first run ( I shamefully admit it was a green run ) I broke my thumb. More correctly one of the main tendons that provides opposing strength in the thumb tore a piece of bone from the base of my main thumb bone. How's that for a good time. Not only did I break my thumb I briused my left elbow so badly that it swelled up to twice it's normal size. Honest, ask the guys who were with me ( Kent & Mark ). I figure I have taken my licks and am ready to get back to it next winter. (Feb 98)
